Migrate your WordPress store to a platform built for commerce.
For serious ecommerce, WordPress falls short. Growing catalogs, B2B customers, and multiple storefronts all need bolt-on plugins and custom builds to work. We migrate WordPress ecommerce stores to BigCommerce.
WordPress was designed for content, not commerce.
WordPress runs nearly half the web as a blogging and content platform. When you bolt commerce onto it, you inherit all of its limitations:
- Plugin dependency hell. WooCommerce alone needs 20–30 more plugins to match what BigCommerce includes out of the box: subscriptions, B2B, multi-currency, tax, shipping logic.
- Security surface area. Every plugin is an attack vector. WordPress sites are the most targeted on the web. Keeping everything updated is a part-time job by itself.
- Performance ceiling. WordPress scales poorly without expensive managed hosting and a CDN stack on top. BigCommerce is SaaS, so infrastructure is handled and included, not an add-on.
- B2B readiness gap. B2B pricing, company accounts, quote workflows, and NET terms require expensive bespoke WordPress builds. BC B2B Edition ships them natively.
WordPress → BC
Full migrationBigCommerce is built to grow with you.
BigCommerce is a purpose-built commerce platform: SaaS-hosted, API-first, and designed for stores that sell seriously. As a Certified BigCommerce Partner, we've run this comparison many times.
Commerce features ship in the platform
BC includes subscriptions, gift cards, multi-currency, shipping rules, abandoned cart, faceted search, and B2B natively — so there's no plugin tax to pay and no update treadmill to manage.
SaaS means zero server work
Hosting, uptime, PCI compliance, SSL, and security patches are BigCommerce's problem. Your team focuses on selling, not maintaining infrastructure.
Native B2B Edition
Company accounts, shared catalogs, price lists, quote workflows, NET terms, and sales rep access are all native to the platform, with no plugin or custom build to pay for.
Multi-Storefront from one instance
Multiple brands, regions, or B2B/B2C storefronts from a single BC instance, with separate domains, themes, and catalogs.
WordPress Site Audit
Every WordPress ecommerce setup is different: WooCommerce, custom post types, bespoke plugins, ACF data. We audit your setup before quoting so the scope is fixed, not estimated.
- Plugin inventory
- Schema audit
- Custom post types
- Fixed scope
Data Migration
Products, variants, customer accounts, order history, and blog posts all move. WordPress custom field and custom post type data is normalized to BC's schema, not truncated.
- Products + variants
- Customer data
- Order history
- Blog + pages
Theme & Storefront Build
Custom Stencil theme built in parallel with migration. Preserves your brand, improves on your old design, ships Lighthouse 95+ from day one.
- Stencil theme
- Lighthouse 95+
- Mobile-first
- B2B-ready
SEO Preservation
WordPress permalink structures rarely match BC's defaults. We build the full redirect map for every product URL, category path, and blog post, then validate it before cutover.
- Full URL audit
- 301 redirects
- Yoast data migration
- GSC monitoring
Frequently asked questions
We use WooCommerce. Can you migrate our store?
Yes — WooCommerce is the most common WordPress ecommerce setup we migrate. Products, variants, customer accounts, order history, and Yoast SEO metadata all move. Custom fields and ACF data are normalized to BC's product schema before any import.
What about our WordPress blog content?
BigCommerce has a native blog. We migrate posts and pages with SEO metadata and build redirects. For complex editorial setups, we can also run BC headless with WordPress as the CMS — your content team keeps their workflow, your store runs on BC.
Will we lose our Google rankings?
Not if the migration is planned correctly. We build a full URL redirect map before cutover, migrate all Yoast SEO metadata, and monitor Search Console in the weeks after launch. Ranking preservation is a standard deliverable on every project — not an afterthought.
Will customer passwords transfer?
WordPress passwords are hashed and not portable. Customers receive a password-reset email on first login to the new BC store. This is standard practice — shoppers handle it without friction.
